Massage and Energy Work

Thai Massage

Thai massage is a clothed therapy that dates back to the time of the Buddha.  In lore, it is noted that the Buddha’s physician was the creator of this tradition in India and as Buddhism grew and traveled this technique ultimately landed in Thailand.

Thai massage is traditionally performed on a cushion on the floor, although table treatments are also available.  It combines deep stretching, joint mobilization, and sen line (energy channel) compression creating a fluid and cohesive session that is deep on many levels.  I include self-care with these sessions which could include stretches, self-massage, breath exercises, and/or meditations.

Craniosacral Therapy

Craniosacral Therapy (CST) evolved from osteopathic medicine and is known to help manage chronic conditions associated with trauma, injuries, and surgeries.   This clothed work may feel subtle but the results can be profound and long lasting.

Each session includes approximately 2-6 hand positions and focuses on bringing balance to the natural rhythms within the body, with a particular attention to the movement of the fluids associated with the nervous, cardiac, and lymphatic systems.  Traumatic events, whether physical or emotional can disrupt these rhythms, which can manifest in many symptoms like pain, poor sleep, and anxiety.  This session helps to release any deep held disruption patterns and restore optimal functioning.

REIKI HEALING

DSC_0815.JPG

Reiki is an ancient therapy rooted in Japan.  It is a clothed session that can be completed either with or without physical touch.  It is very relaxing and can help to promote physical healing (including bones) and assuage some of the side effects of chemotherapy, such as nausea and poor sleep.

A hands-on session includes several hand positions that are aligned with major centers of the body.  In some eastern traditions, these centers are called chakras (literally defined as “wheels”) and in more western ideology they are called plexus (defined as braid/network).  These positions are typically on the midline of the body, including the head, neck, chest, belly, and also may include arms and legs.  If you would prefer not to be touched the hand positions can be lifted off the body, or the session can be done at a distance.

In-Patient options

I am available to travel to any local medical facility, including hospitals, skilled nursing or hospice facilities.  I will work within the confines of the room and adapt the session to any specific needs or precautions.  I do this work because there is strong evidence that if we can reduce our levels of stress our bodies have more energy to promote healing and may even change our perception of pain.  The earlier you start this work, the quicker the recovery.

This session is predominantly Reiki and/or Craniosacral therapy and may also include gentle massage of the hands, feet, and neck, as well as guided imagery and breath techniques to reduce stress and pain and improve the patient's general comfort level.  Family members are also welcome to add on abbreviated sessions for themselves. Cost depends on location and length of service.

Yoga & Classes

Private/Small Group Yoga

Traditionally, yoga was exclusively for those called towards a monastic lifestyle.  The ancient texts of yoga cover all aspects of one's existence including 4am wake up calls, basic vegetarian meals, cleansing rituals, and meditative movements.  This lifestyle enjoys enviable health and often brings the follower into deep states of meditation.  Today, yogic philosophy and exercises have expanded to reach all people and is a great compliment to the chaotic lifestyles of western society.

My passion for yoga has continued for over 15 years and I know how challenging it can be to find a class that is appropriate for you.  Whether you are new to the practice, struggling with, or recovering from an injury/health condition, or just looking to deepen your personal practice I can offer a wide variety of techniques including Hatha, Kundalini, and Therapeutic modalities, to help you reach your goals and facilitate a healthy yoga practice designed specifically for you.  I am happy to work with a small group with similar needs, please inquire for more information.  Note: 30 minute yoga sessions can be added to any bodywork session.
